CloudMade make maps differently.
CloudMade provides you with access to a range of innovative tools and APIs that allow you to make the most of map data. We source our map data from OpenStreetMap, the community mapping project which is making a free map of the world. Our first set of APIs were released to selected developers in May 2008 and allow the integration of high quality maps into mobile and web-based applications.
Who we are
CloudMade was founded by Steve Coast and Nick Black in 2007 to provide professional services around open mapdata. Steve founded OpenStreetMap in 2004 after becoming frustrated by the lack of freely available maps in the UK. A leading figure in the open geodata movement, Steve has driven OpenStreetMap from a bedroom project to a 35,000 member Foundation, with active contributors in over 30 countries across the world. Nick began working with OpenStreetMap in 2006 whilst studying for a Masters in Geographic Information Science at University College London. The Founders' prominence within the emerging discipline of neo-geography and their pioneering role in the open geodata movement give them a unique insight into the world of free, community made maps.
CloudMade's Executive, Management and Engineering teams are made up of some of the leading members of the OpenStreetMap community who help keep us close to our roots. Our deep involvement with open source and community based projects is complimented by a significant amount experience within the mobile and internet industries, drawing upon the expertise of our Chairman, Juha Christensen and CTO, James Brown as well as the backing of our investors, Sunstone Capital represented by Jørgen Smidt.
What we believe in
CloudMade's development team all have strong backgrounds within free software and OpenStreetMap communities. We believe in simple, open approaches to problem solving, whether that's open source software or open data. We believe that bottom up works. We don't like complexity for complexity's sake and we think that given the right tools and access to the right data individuals can make enormous accomplishments.
Our aims are to continue the democratization of geo data and to expand access to open geo data by providing universal access to a range of simple yet powerful tools and APIs that allow developers and consumers to realise the full potential of resources like OpenStreetMap.

CloudMade have offices in Menlo Park, California (Business Development), London (Business Development, Product Development, Engineering) and Kiev, Ukraine (Engineering).
CloudMade and OpenStreetMap
CloudMade are here to make using OpenStreetMap data easier and more accessible. We support OpenStreetMap by sponsoring mapping parties, providing public relations and legal support, hosting developer events and contributing to the OSM code base. We want OpenStreetMap to have the best geo data in the world and we think the best way to achieve this is to support OSM and the OpenStreetMap Foundation as independent organisations.
